Will it work on what you own?
The honest answer depends on the model, not the brand. A 2014 Samsung and a 2020 Samsung are different machines with different app stores. Here is where each family stops, and what to do when yours falls below the line.
| Device family | What works | Where it stops, and the way round |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Smart TV | Tizen models, roughly 2016 onwards | Sets older than that run Orsay, which has no app store worth using. A stick in the HDMI port costs less than a new television and solves it completely. |
| LG Smart TV | webOS 3.0 and later, most sets from around 2016 | Below that line the television cannot install a player at all. Same answer as Samsung: use a stick or a box, and the television becomes a screen. |
| Amazon Fire TV | Fire TV Stick, Stick 4K, Stick 4K Max, Cube, and Fire TV built into a set | A first-generation stick will accept a 4K stream and then struggle with it. Pick the HD version of that channel and it settles immediately. |
| Android TV & Google TV | Chromecast with Google TV, Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box, most Android TV boxes, sets with Android TV built in | A box not certified for Google Play may simply not be offered the app. That is the box, not the app — tell us the model and we will give you another route. |
| Android phone & tablet | Any current Android phone or tablet, from the Play Store | Players designed for a remote feel cramped under a thumb. The phone earns its place mainly for typing the server address, which a d-pad makes miserable. |
| iPhone, iPad & Apple TV | Current iOS and iPadOS from the App Store; Apple TV by AirPlay or with a player installed on it | Several App Store listings copy one another’s names almost exactly. Read the developer line, not the title, before you install. |
| Windows & macOS | Any computer that runs VLC or a desktop IPTV player | There is no web player, and VLC shows no programme guide. On a computer, VLC is the fastest way to test whether a stream works — not the way to watch television. |
Two things hold true on every row. Your credentials can be installed on as many of your own devices as you like, but only one may play at a time. And the connection matters more than the hardware: around 15 Mbps for Full HD, about 25 Mbps for 4K, measured on the device doing the watching.
